How long has AMS been in business (as AMS)?
AMS was established in July of 2005 to meet the demands of employers, payers and other groups that were looking for specialist physicians focused on workers compensation. Our staff is comprised of experienced and credentialed specialty providers; many have practiced within our specialist group for over 10 years.

How many centers does AMS have and what are the plans for future expansion?
AMS operates 11 multi-specialty centers and also offers specialty care in over 100 acute care centers and in selected physician offices. AMS’ group of specialists is expansive; over 200+ specialists in over 25 states serving over 50 markets. The company anticipates continued future expansion in key markets across the country to meet growing specialist demands.

Is AMS a center or a group of specialists?
Both. AMS offers expanded nationwide access through its group of specialists spanning over 14 various specialties. These specialists may work out of the stand alone AMS centers or an acute care occupational health center.

Why do you use AMS?
AMS is a group of specialty medicine providers that focus on workers compensation cases. The providers are locally based with active practices that come together at the AMS center to provide their expertise and expert care to workers compensation patients. AMS physicians are supported by a staff specifically trained in handling workers compensation cases. They provide timely and accurate administrative support, ongoing communication and reports and all other non-clinical services that result in early return to work and successful case closure.

Who provides the therapy services at AMS?
The therapy services at AMS are provided by Concentra Physical Therapy. CMC physical and occupational therapists have advanced (manual therapy) training in treating work place injuries and expediting appropriate return to work status. They work closely with the specialist to plan a comprehensive treatment approach designed around the patient’s needs.

How do I refer a patient to an AMS physician or center?
You may contact the Client Support Services department. A referral coordinator will walk you through the referral intake and client set up process. Or – you may contact the center directly. We will also ensure that we have established any post-visit communication expectations upon the referral intake.

How does Client Support Services fit in with AMS?
The Client Support Services department will coordinate the referral process into AMS specialists for specialist consults, evaluations, treatments, testing, etc.

What communication can I expect from an AMS physician on my patient/referral?
Post-visit communication expectations are designed around the needs of the client. We strive to communicate the exact information that is needed to for each party involved whether it is a Nurse Case Manager, employer, adjustor, patient or referring physician.

Do all the AMS physicians and centers accept work comp referrals?
Yes. All AMS specialists accept worker’s comp specialist referrals from external referral sources such as payers, self-ensured employers, TPAs, etc.

Are the specialists employed or contracted?
The majority of our specialists are independent contractors and remain independent while working with us. They are locally based and maintain their own active private practices. We do have a few employed specialists.

Are they credentialed/NPDB query?
All specialists are fully credentialed and go through a full background check prior to becoming a specialist with AMS. The credentialing process includes verification of the Physicians’ education and medical licensure as well as review of the National Practitioner Data Bank for actions. We follow NCQA credentialing standards – which is considered the “gold” standard.

Are the specialists board certified?
All AMS Specialists are required to be Board Certified or Board Eligible (residency trained).
